Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of identifying and ranking the risks facing banks merged with Bank Sepah in Isfahan Province. The data for this research were collected in the field through semi-structured interviews that included general and specialized questions. The study population comprised senior managers and operational experts of Bank Sepah and the merged banks, including Ansar Bank, Ghavamin Bank, Mehr Eqtesad Bank, Hekmat Bank, and Kosar Bank in Isfahan City and the sample size in the qualitative phase continued until theoretical saturation was reached. The results of data analysis showed that three main factors were identified as the most significant risks of merging with Bank Sepah, among which employee commitment and loyalty ranked highest, followed by weak management and structural complexity. Additionally, in the ranking of secondary factors, protecting customers’ rights was identified as the top priority, followed in order by factors such as account diversity, systematic implementation, strategy execution, human resources management, training, cultural development, infrastructure development, branch density, interbank cooperation, human resources challenges, lack of updates, unbalanced financial statements, lack of client trust, and legal inconsistencies. These findings indicate that the success of the bank merger process with Bank Sepah requires special attention to employee commitment and motivation, protection of customers’ rights and trust, improvement of management systems, resolution of structural complexities, and enhancement of technical and human infrastructure. Moreover, formulating integrated strategies to reduce the identified risks and challenges can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of bank mergers in Isfahan City.
